Anesthesiology/MAO Inhibitor

Question
I have been on an MAO Inhibitor (Nardil) for over twenty years and my doctor told me that if I ever needed immediate surgery, there are several anesthetics available that they could give me. I would like to know what those are and how they would be administered.  Thank you.

Answer
Whatever anesthetic they would give you (and there are several options), knowing that you were on MAOI's would let us know how sensitive you are to certain drugs and allows us to choose alternatives or at least be ready to treat the side effects should they arise.
