Question
My daughter is on Paxil and is having surgery next week.  I know there is some controversy about Paxil and anesthesia.  Her doctor says not to worry but I am concerned.  Can you tell me what the controversy is about, I am having a problem finding any information on this.  Thank you

Answer
There have been occasional reports of cardiac arrythmias with Paxil and anesthesia but these are very rare and of no significant consequence. Just make sure your anesthesiolgist is aware of the meds you are taking so that he can be prepared should this happen to your daugther.
