Question
Hi. I'm a senior in high school and interested in Anesthesiology. I live in Rhode Island and i wanted to go to Rhode Island College to save money. RIC is 11 thous whereas most schools are over 30 thous. However, i don't know how to come about being a anesthesiologist or anything really about it (this includes salary, description of job, classes to take in school and if RIC is okay to go to). I was wondering if you could help me out because all I hear is you give the anesthesia and thats it and im sure theres A LOT more to it.

Thank you,

becky

Answer
HI Becky
There is indeed a whole lot more to it - it is a very specialised area of medicine that allows you to help all sorts of people. From providing pain relief in labour to grateful women to providing anaesthesia and perioperative care for sick children and adults. There are so many fields that you can specialise in.
Now as to how to go about it in the States etc I haven't a clue as I am UK based. However I'm sure one of my colleagues from the USA can help there.
All I can say is that I really enjoy my job.
All the best
