Question
Hello,

Can you tell me why i had post operative nausea and vomiting as in the physiological/biochemical causes of PONV?? thank you

Answer
Kimberley
Well you asked..
Post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is multifactorial in origin but the main control is via 2 centres in the brain. These are the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone and the Vomiting Centre.
Various drugs and senses act on these centres to cause PONV. The various senses and drugs can cause this problem by varying pathways that use different transmitters. This can make the management of PONV a challenge.
