Anglicans/Trial of Christ

Question
From a historical point of view, how do biblical scholars explain the account of the trial of Christ before Pilate? Who witnessed this and subsequently spoke to the Gospel writers for them to record the interrogation?

Steve

Answer
As there is no evidence as to how this was recorded, most commentators do not speculate. Some official record, now lost, may have existed; there's nothing to suggest Pilate and Jesus were alone so there have been other witnesses; or of course the risen Jesus could have been the source.
