Question
How do cosmetic corporations prove to the general public that their ingredients/ raw materials are not used in animal testing? If their formulas are considered "trade secrets" how can we be positively sure that their claims are true?

Hi,

I think you are confusing two different things.  What a company's proprietary formulas are, and what they test those formulas on, are two different things.

I am not concretely certain how each and every one does testing.  But many do discuss the types of tests they do run.  Many companies are proud of the fact they don't do animal testing and are more explanatory about the other types of testing they do instead.

So basically, if a company is saying they don't do testing and they promote that fact and discuss all the other testing they are doing instead of using animals, they most likely are truthful.  It would be a perhaps unsurvivable PR catastrophe if they were lying.  It would be fraud and shareholders would revolt.
