Question
is animal rights an doxa, orthadoxy, or heterodoxy

Answer
Hi Regina,

Since the question lacks context, it's rather difficult to answer in absolute terms.  However, the animal rights movement might be considered not only a heterodoxy, but actually heretical, in a society so inured to the pain of other creatures, one that feels as if it is it's birthright to not only consume, but torture fellow beings.  Unfortunately the orthodox position of modern American society has been one delineated by a dominionist ideology.

And yet as any student of history knows, todays orthodoxy when confronted with an antithetical paradigm results in a conflict/synthesis that often replaces that old orthodoxy with what was previously heterdoxical.

So, the answer to the question is contingent, not only on the societal perspective from which one views the issue, but also the point in time one asks the question.

For instance, in the last century vivisection was an orthodox scientific pursuit.  That orthodoxy when confronted with it's opposite, lost its acceptance in society and could now be termed a heterodox viewpoint.

Good luck~!
