Question
im doing a speech paper for my ffa class and my topic is animal rights vs. animal welfare. what are some points about these topics? im so lost and haven't found anything too exciting. i really hope you can help me out, thanks so much. -nycole

Answer
Hi Nycole,

When you state Animal Rights - I think of the Abolition movement, which aims to turn everyone vegan, and not spend precious time on making life more comfortable for the animals that live in battery cages (chickens) or gestation crates (pigs)... they want every cage empty.

Welfarists wish to end all suffering as well, but they focus on changing laws, to rid animals of the cramped and horrifying existence they live in, however, even if these animals get more space, their lives are still horrible.  For example, in California recently, a law was passed to eliminate the use of gestation crates for pigs and battery cages for chickens.  That law won't go into affect until 2015, and the animals still have to endure the horrors of the slaughterhouse.

I hope this helps!  Here is a link to the abolitionist movement, and one of the big names heading this movement:  http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/

I can answer almost all questions about animals raised for food... and the horrifying truths of the abuse and torture these animals endure. Also, about the health ramifications of eating animals or their products, i.e. heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and a host of other diseases linked to our diets. Any questions on existing on a plant based diet, solely, raw diet and the health benefits.
