Animal Rights/Animal Testing
Expert: Stephen Vantassel - 5/20/2011
QuestionWhy is it harmful to test products on animals and is there any positive ideas to why testing on animals should be allowed?
Thanks
AnswerIt isn't for the human. Animals suffer in some tests. But the question is are humans more valuable than animals. I say yes. Then given that premise, what is responsible testing?
Animal rights protest industry advocates regularly decry the use of animal testing in general but often speak of useless testing for "unnecessary products like mascara." Okay, then why aren't they lobbying governments to change the liability laws so that companies don't have to test the safety of their products before selling to the public.
So called "cruelty free" products are actually a misnomer. These are just products that have been so well tested they don't need to be tested any more.
If you believe in medical research, vaccines, and helping people with spinal injuries, then you will support animal research. If you don't want to help people, then you won't.
Read Wes Jamison's book, A Rat is a Pig Is a Dog is a Boy. He has a whole chapter on animal experimentation.
