Animal Rights/Squirrel

Question
Not sure this question relevant to your field but we have a pasty squirrel who feeds on our porch plants as well as leaving his deposits. Do you know how we can prevent him from using our porch as a dinning room as well as a bathroom? Did make up a make shift trap but he's too clever to enter it. Do not wish to destroy him or her, but would like him or her to find another restaurant. Thank You.

Answer
Dear Ray:

I don't know much about squirrels, however, I believe when people have problems w/bunnies getting in their plants there's some kind of wiring - might be called chicken wire - I'm not sure - that you can put around your plants.

I'm also wondering if you could put some extra plants or food out just for these squirrels & then also protect the plants you care about w/this chicken wire or other fencing.

Also, definitely check with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) peta.com or 1-757-622-peta.  They will be able to help you with every kind of animal.

Good luck.

Expertise

I can help with behavior problem solving for dogs & cats - many things. I have had my own business doing behavior problem solving & pet sitting for 14 years. I have been animal rights activist for 25 years. I work hard to educate people how to solve behavior problems in the most humane way possible. I often recommend Gentle Leader collars with difficult dogs, train with praise & great veggie meat treats. Can make recommendations on dealing with aggressive / biting dogs, training cats to use "good" scratching post to avoid declawing.
