Answer
What is the schedule and total run time expected to be?  The cost can vary greatly based on these and other issues. I've done animations ranging from $2000 to $20,000. If the schedule is tight and they want a clean and polished look you would be closer to the $20,000 mark while a more simplistic animation or one where you've got plenty of time can cost far less. Professional studios rarely do anything for under $20k but as a freelancer you would generally warrant a smaller fee as you presumably have less resources to offer.

good luck
