Answer
hi sam,

each of the adobe programs fills a specific need. premiere is used for editing, although it has some special effects and compositing tools. after effects is used for 2d animation (with some limited 3d effects) + compositing. photoshop is used to create and manipulate raster imagery. illustrator is the same, except for vector imagery. audition is for audio production.

the main thing you need to decide is what needs you want filled, i.e. editing and audio production. my guess is you don't need all the software here, but depending on how many of the software you need, it might be more economical to buy a suite. adobe puts out different suites, depending on which software you want - check out their website - so it might be more economical to buy a package.

if u r a student, u can get significant student discounts on adobe products.

a lot of the cs4 software does not run on pre-intel macs.

pls let me know if u have any other questions.
