Animation/computer games and moniters

QuestionIt happened when my brother just turned the computer off with the button not the proper shut down way. When I turned on the computer again there was a black column down the middle of my screen. What should have been at the left of my screen was to the right of this and then carried on when the screen ran out on the left side of it if that makes sense. I fixed it by changing the resolution of the screen on properties display e.t.c. from right clicking on the desktop but it still happens with all computer games. I can't make it go away. Whenever I load anything up there is this split. The one I got rid of on the desktop. I tried changing the resolution but that just changes where the split is in the screen. I can't play any games. I tried uninstalling them and reinstalling them but that doesn't work either. I'm stumped.
AnswerWell this isn't exactly my area of expertise, but I would look at the display properties and see what refresh rate it is set at and whether it's within range of your monitor. Set it at 60hz on both the display settings and the monitor itself with it's on screen menu. If your OS is working, your games should too, they may just be resetting it to a higher out of range refresh rate or resolution...
good luck
