Animation/What software to use??

Question
Hi Russell.
I'm going to make a 2D animation of some oil related equipment going down the drilling hole. I need to be able to move the parts in two directions (x-y) at the same time. I don't need anything fanzy like 3D Studio. As easy to use as possible. If it can do 3D animations too, it would be great. Should be able to import from Cad software.
Any idea what software I can use??
Thanks! :-)

Answer
Hi Stig,

It's not a matter of what software you should use. What software do you have that you know how to use?
Flash is fine for simple 2D work. ToonBoom is a great app but is expensive and takes a long time to learn. If you are familiar with a 3D program that you own it should be pretty simple to do a 2D animation project with it. "South Park" is actually done in Maya.

Hope this helps.
