It all depends on the computer and the software you buy.
If you are a student attending a college or community college already you can get an Apple computer at a student discount.
You can get Maya software from Studica at a student discount, also. Buy the computer, buy the software and do the tutorials!
DIY. I learned animation on my own and then learned on the job.
And look at me today!

This is the cheapest way to learn.
If you got what it takes to really get into computer animation professionally, you'll get there.
There are online groups you can ask questions to when you get into a snag.
