QUESTION: Sir,
My name is Prateek .I have given my BCA 3rd year exams.I live in Jammu.I want to make animation as my carrer because I think that MCA and MBA are more of a theoratical subjects than practical and animation is completely practical and the industry is booming with great speed. Please tell me ,Is that true that anyone can do animation?.What are the future growth in the field of animation. What are the salary packages that are offered?.I would like to go to Delhi.
AnswerHi Prateek,
Not everyone can be an animator. Animation is not a 'practical' job. It is an artisan vocation. There is a lot of competition and even the though the industry is booming it takes a lot of disipline in the arts. It requires patience and understanding performing, dance, acting, physics and film making. Anyone can learn to "move things around" but it takes a real artist to create a believable and life-like character.
If acting isn't your specialty you may look into effects animation such as water, dust, smoke and fire. In 3D CGI animation there are lots of other technical jobs such as 'set building' and lighting.
I'm in the United States so I am not familiar with the schools in Delhi. You may want to download some demo programs and do the tutorials to see if you really want to animate. If I can help you with anything else, please let me know. I'm not trying to be discouraging but I want you to know animation is hard work and you need to be totally immersed in it to be one of the best!
Good luck,
