Question
How do you compress a file in quicktime?

Answer
your question is not real clear, but what I think you are trying to do is to put a file in the quicktime .mov format.  In order to do that, you have to have a graphic editing program like After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut (those are high end.  a consumer program like the pinnacle DV softwares will work or any program that allows you to do home editing with DV movies)  When you export, or render the final movie, you want to save as a .mov file.  Now compression depends on how large or small a file size you want.

If this isn't what you were asking, then please follow up, and I'll try to be of more assistance.
