Question
Hi Andre, I just recently purchased 3DS Max,  I am very familiar with the Interface and I can do simple logo's and animation.  But what I really want to learn is Bone Manipulation.  I opened up a sample Character with bones but I have no idea what to do with them.  I was wondering if you could help me out.  I don't know if you are familiar with the new version of 3DS Max.  I hope you are, they're all basically the same anyway.

Also, I have never created an actual character,  If you could help me out with some pointers and maybe some websites with tutorials, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks for your time, Dan.

Answer
Hey Dan,

I too am really starting to focus on bone manipulation.  I am studying the techniques of a guy named Jeff Lew, who worked on the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies as lead animator.  He now has a DVD set out for learning 3d Character Animation.  I just got it last month and haven't gone through the entire thing, but TRUST ME, if you are serious about it, then it is a very worth while investment. You can see his work at www.jefflew.com

Make sure you download "Killer Bean 2" on his site...you'll love it!

His DVD is not software specific, but with the techniques that he shows in rigging characters and animating bones, it will accelerate your learning curve.

Cheers,
Andre'
