I'm hoping to learn Flash on my iMAC G4. I need to know if my existing
hard drive and memory are adequate. I thought I'd ask before I install Studio
8. Here's the specifics:

 iMac
 CPU Type:   PowerPC G4  (2.1)
 Number Of CPUs:   1
 CPU Speed:   700 MHz
 L2 Cache (per CPU):   256 KB
 Memory:   256 MB

Will my machine accomodate Flash as it exists? If not, what is your
recommendation?

I don't have a Mac, but I looked up the requirements for you:

Adobe Flash CS3-
Systems Requirements
* 1GHz PowerPC® G4 or G5 or multicore Intel® processor
* Mac OS X v.10.4.8
* 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
* 2.5GB of available hard-disk space (additional free space required during installation)
* 1,024x768 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card
* DVD-ROM drive
* QuickTime 7.1.2 software required for multimedia features
* Internet or phone connection required for product activation
* Broadband Internet connection required for Adobe Stock Photos* and other services

Macromedia Studio 8 Flash-
*600 MHz PowerPC G3 and later
*Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4
*256 MB RAM (1 GB recommended to run more than one Studio 8 product simultaneously)
*1024 x 768, thousands of colors display (millions of colors recommended)
*1.2 GB available disk space
