Question
This flower was among a group of seedlings given to me.   Each has a single stem with smooth leaves opposite each other and measuring two to three inches.   It has started blossoming just recently.   These blossoms are on the top of the stem and are blue on one plant and white on the other.   They resemble roses. are very soft and have no discernable odor.gqqnl

Answer
Leah,
Without a photo it's pretty hard to guess what you might be talking about, but my guess, based on the blue and white you describe, is that it's Campanula Blue Wonder and White Wonder, or perhaps another Campanula.  Google image these and see what you think.  If not, send me a URL where I can see a photo and I'll see what I can do.  There aren't that many plants that have blue and white flowers, so if you don't think it's a Campanula (and there are MANY so don't be fooled if you only see a photo of one or two - Blue Wonder has rose-like flowers.)

all the best,
C.L.

Annuals suggested for specific situations (sun, shade, windowboxes etc) New or unusual annuals are a particular interest of mine, and I grow many of these from seed. I am happy to help problem solve, answer questions about maintenance, and guide you to sources of unusual plants.

Experience

I am a garden writer/speaker/consultant and host of a weekly gardening radio program in the Northeast. I have been gardening all my life for my own pleasure, and started as a professional gardener and garden communicator 15 years ago. I work part-time at a garden center, selling and tending shrubs/trees/annuals/perennials...and doing some propagation and design work. I often think that all these professional activities serve to put a somewhat legitimate framework around a serious case of plant-lust.
