Question I bought a quince bush four years ago. It was in bloom and very beautiful. It has not bloomed since then. It looks healthy but does not bloom. It gets plenty of sun. Any suggestions?
Answer Carole, I would have a soil test done to check the nutrient ratio in that particular bed. Perennials require a high percentage of phosphorus in the soil to promote blooming. Phosphorus is often depleted if organic matter is not added to the soil every spring.
My suggestion is to add aged manure, compost, and peat to the soil in late fall. I would then fertilize the plants in early spring with a product high in phosphorus. That should correct the problem.
I hope this answered your question. Please write again if i can ever provide assistance.
