Question
I have a Marigold Border Mix box that I bought at the store I planted it earlier in the summer I belive June and they came up beautifully. But it did not quite fill the area I want to fill and I found and bought another marigold mix. My question is can I plant them now or is it to late in the season to do so. The box does say to use during 09 season and I am not that sure what to do. I live in the South of Maryland.

Answer
Shannon,
Yes, it's too late in the season to plant seeds - you don't say if it's a box of seeds or small plants you purchased, so I'm assuming seeds.  Save them for next year by putting the box in a jar or plastic carton and store this in an a cool spot such as an unheated garage. (not a place that will go below freezing however) You'll be able to plant them next year in May.

If I'm wrong, and you have more plants, just plant them and enjoy for the time until hard frost.
I hope this helps,
C.L.

Annuals suggested for specific situations (sun, shade, windowboxes etc) New or unusual annuals are a particular interest of mine, and I grow many of these from seed. I am happy to help problem solve, answer questions about maintenance, and guide you to sources of unusual plants.

Experience

I am a garden writer/speaker/consultant and host of a weekly gardening radio program in the Northeast. I have been gardening all my life for my own pleasure, and started as a professional gardener and garden communicator 15 years ago. I work part-time at a garden center, selling and tending shrubs/trees/annuals/perennials...and doing some propagation and design work. I often think that all these professional activities serve to put a somewhat legitimate framework around a serious case of plant-lust.
