Annuals/prolonging daffodil blooms

Question
Is it possible or advisable to prolong the blooms of minature daffodils by putting them in the refrigerator before incorporating them in a dish garden? (to be on public display in City Hall, Mount Dora, FL for the City's 100th anniversary on March 25th).

Any tips on prolonging daffodil blooms are appreciated!
Thank you,
Andrea

Answer
Yes, the longer you can keep them cool the slower they will be to open. Don't let them go completely dry, but don't water them too frequently either...just keep them damp.  If they are already starting to open, however, it will be difficult to freeze them as is. So be on the lookout for another pot of budded, but not open daffs to put into the dish just before you deliver it.

I hope this helps,

Annuals suggested for specific situations (sun, shade, windowboxes etc) New or unusual annuals are a particular interest of mine, and I grow many of these from seed. I am happy to help problem solve, answer questions about maintenance, and guide you to sources of unusual plants.

Experience

I am a garden writer/speaker/consultant and host of a weekly gardening radio program in the Northeast. I have been gardening all my life for my own pleasure, and started as a professional gardener and garden communicator 15 years ago. I work part-time at a garden center, selling and tending shrubs/trees/annuals/perennials...and doing some propagation and design work. I often think that all these professional activities serve to put a somewhat legitimate framework around a serious case of plant-lust.
