Question
The leaves on my impaitants are starting to turn yellow, only on some. Is it not enough water? too much water? or not/too much sun? I do use mirical grow every other week Thanks for your help!

Answer
Jill,
Usually yellowing leaves indicates either too little or  too much water - try watering your plants less often, but for a longer time - deep soaking encourages deep root systems, but allowing a few days off gives the soil surface a chance to dry out and prevents crown and root rot.  If you live where the temps are in the 90's, water every three days if it doesn't rain.  If you live where it goes into the 60's at night and isn't above 80 in the day, water every six or seven days.  Whenever possible, water in the morning.  How long?  Buy a rain guage and see how long it takes to deliver an inch of water - that's how long to run the sprinklers...never hand water - people get bored long before the plants get a good deep soaking.

You are fertilizing correctly.

I hope this helps!

Annuals suggested for specific situations (sun, shade, windowboxes etc) New or unusual annuals are a particular interest of mine, and I grow many of these from seed. I am happy to help problem solve, answer questions about maintenance, and guide you to sources of unusual plants.

Experience

I am a garden writer/speaker/consultant and host of a weekly gardening radio program in the Northeast. I have been gardening all my life for my own pleasure, and started as a professional gardener and garden communicator 15 years ago. I work part-time at a garden center, selling and tending shrubs/trees/annuals/perennials...and doing some propagation and design work. I often think that all these professional activities serve to put a somewhat legitimate framework around a serious case of plant-lust.
