Question
I planted three Lilac bushes this past spring, they are still smallish. Should they be covered for the winter.
I live in the upper midwest...

Answer
Yes, I would protect it by placing a cardboard box around the bush and then filling the box with shredded leaves. This will protect the plant and its roots. Just be sure to remove the protective covering in early April.
