Question
I want to plant lilacs a long side of a fence for privacy from neighbors ,The question  is can lilacs handle water on the laves as this is a side that gets a lot of water from irrigating sprinklers . What damage can it do to them,This is the side that also holds our septic leach lines will the roots get into them .I will wait for an answer before I plant them in that spot,It does get a lot of sun also. Thanks Freida from Emmette Id

Answer
Freida, it all depends on the drainage. If the area drains well, you should not have a problem. The other issue would be the timing of the sprinklers. Lilacs, like many plants, are susceptible to fungus diseases if the foliage is wet overnight on warm, humid nights. That is why it is always best to water early in the morning.

But if the drainage is good, and the irrigation is early in the day, you should be alright. And in regard to the septic lines, that should not propose a problem.

I hope this answered your question. Please write again if you ever need assistance.

Mike
