Question
Am in process of seasonal change of landscaping at sister's house.  Want to know the proper method for trimming hibiscus shrubs - very elongated, about 6 - 8 feet tall!

Answer
Ron, you must trim them prior to them budding.  Fall is a perfect time of year to prune.  Just be sure to remove no more than 1/3 of the shrub.  You really cannot do any damage if you remove less than this.  Pruning is not a science.  It's just a matter of pruning at the right time of year, and molding the bush according to your own preference.  By pruning now, you will have more buds next spring, and promote a more dense growing habit.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Mike
