Anorexia/Eating Disorders/Post Anorexia Weight Gain
Expert: Leigh-Anne Persing, PA-C - 10/6/2008
QuestionI was anorexic for close to 3 years. When I started eating a more normal
amount, I, very slowly over a period of a year gained almost 20 pounds back.
It has been so hard for me to accept this. I am not over weight but I see all
this fat on me that I just can't get used to. I eat very healthy now, but I feel
like this weight gain is a runaway train. When will it stop? I know I shouldn't
be eating less- I'm eating a good amount. But I don't want to gain more
weight. This is as much as I can take.
AnswerI need some more information to adequately answer your question, but I can give you kind of a generic answer in the meantime.
If you are maintaining the same caloric intake, then when your body reaches a healthy weight for you then the weight gain will sotp and plateau. Our bodies are amazing pieces of work. They go into "hibernation" when we don't gve it enough fuel, in order to conserve energy. And when you eat healthily and nourish your body with good foods then it uses that food to fuel your body and give you energy... your weight will go up to a point at which your body knows it has enough in storage to support daily bodily functions.
If you want a more directed answer, please provide me with your low weight and what your weight is at now. Your height and what your daily caloric intake is along with any exercising that you do.
