Anorexia/Eating Disorders/Bulimia and Swollen Glands

Question
I have read responses to similar questions as the one I will ask, but I really hope you might have some specific insight.

I was bulimic for around two years, and have been in recovery, with NO purging, for 3 months. Still, my parotid salivary glands are quite swollen. I have tried to read about this issue in as many places as possible, but it's hard to get an answer...is it normal for them to take so long to return to normal?

Thank you so very much for your time.

Unfortunately it is possible for them to take time to return to normal.  It is impossible to put a time limit on this and it is just a matter or persevering.

If they are extremely swollen, sore to touch, or the skin is warm above them, I would go to a doctor to make sure that there is no infection though!

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
