Question
Hi,
I have been recovering from bulimia for about 3months now but i am fighting not to go back to my old comforts. I have picked up about 6kgs and hate the way i look right now. but at the same time i cant hurt my family anymore. Its almost as if i have to fight 2 worlds, 1 wants me to stop and the other taunts me to carry on. Please advice

It is great that you are trying to recover.  Unfortunately, it is not normally a very easy ride!

Eating disorders tend to linger for a while, and they will fight with your logical, rational mind!  You just need to keep reminding yourself why you are doing it, and what you will achieve from going through this right now!

Weight gain is normally part of recovery, but in time this should settle and possibly even decrease once your body has healed itself.  It is just important that you don't return to disordered eating behaviours as although you may lose weight again, you will just put it on again when trying to recover again, and this is what can lead to years of yoyo dieting, which is not worth it, and can ultimately end up with you weighing more than you did to begin with, suffering a number of health complications, or possibly so ill with an eating disorder, you life is at risk!

Please continue as you are doing, and be proud of what you are doing and where you are heading

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
