Anorexia/Eating Disorders/Loss of Appetite
Expert: Rev. Ke'ala Vai Noel - 6/21/2008
QuestionA week or 2 ago I was diagnosed with dehydration and heat exhaustion when I was not feeling well after being out in the summer heat for a few days. I felt dizzy/lightheaded, weak, and i lost my appetite and was experiencing some nausea. I was put on IVs on 2 separate occasions to replenish my body. Now, i am no longer dehydrated or feeling dizzy and lightheaded, but my appetite has not come back. I have been to several doctors and a psychologist, but nothing is seeming to help. Just about everything i attempt to eat tastes bad to me and just makes me not want to eat it. When I try to make myself eat certain things that I don't find appealing it makes me feel a little nauseous. One doctor prescribed Xanax but I'm a little hesitant to take that. And yes, I have lost about 10 pounds. Any ideas on how i can regain my appetite and like eating again? I'm REALLY frustrated, I used to love eating :(
AnswerAloha, I think your taste buds shut down on you for a little while. Try eating sharp tasting things, citrus, pickles, sour or salty things and see if that gets you motivated. You might also want to try to get some palmerosa essential oil from your health food store, you will need just a small amount that helps restore appetite.
I think your body thought it was going to die, and now you need to convince it that everything is okay. I do a type of hypnotherapy session by phone that will allow you to communicate with your system to get it back on line.
I believe you are suffering from PTSD from the dehydration.
Check out my web site and look at the phone counseling links if you are interested in doing a session that will most likely clear this up for you. Talking directly to body parts allows you to find out just what they need from you to get back on track. I do this alot with my eating disorder patients when they actually have to convince parts of themselves to start functioning again.
Hope that helps, good luck and ALOHA Rev. Ke'ala Vai Noel
