Anorexia/Eating Disorders/4 years of an eating disorder and recovering
Expert: Nafeesah - 9/8/2008
QuestionI will try to make this brief. I have had anorexia nervousa for over 4 years now and am currently in an "outpatient" program involving a dietcian, counselor, and my doctor. I am required to gain 1/2 pound a week and go in for weekly checkups/weigh ins...
This is has been going on now for 3 weeks. My counselor is highly suggesting I go to an inpatient treatment due to my low weight91 pounds 5'7.5" height, hypothryodism, osteoporisis, and the mental confusion. I cannot afford an inpatient treatment and am hoping to overcome this on my own...I am looking for anothers advice in the field, due to the fact my mother thinks it is not necessary due to money factor and that I am 22 years old and should be an adult. I have good days and bad days, where I know I can do it...but.
Anything would be of great help in the advice field-
thank you.
AnswerIf you have insurance you should be able to get into an inpatient treatment. I would look for resources that would pay for you to get into treatment for the conditions and your counselor can write recommendations for you to get something if you can't afford there's resources out there. Check out this site called Something-fishy.org which is for people with eating disorders and they should have resources on there to help people get treatment if they can't afford it. 22 is young to have osteoporosis and that's serious because if you fell you will have a hard time healing from something like that. You can't really do recovery on your own you need help doing that so you can get better psychologically and medically. Just check out the website I suggest and see if there's something on there that can help you seek the funding or resources to help pay for treatment.
