Anorexia/Eating Disorders - eating disorder

Expert: Gerri Helms - 10/20/2009

Question
I started a diet about 6 weeks ago, even though the scales told me I was an ok weight (112 pounds, I am 5ft 1) I felt I could still do with slimming a little. I am now 96 pounds and although I know I am a little underweight my body doesnt seemed to have changed from before. I eat 200 calories a day, and if on rare occasions I have ate a meal to keep up a pretence, I never eat it all and vomit it up within half an hour as i'm scared if its in my body to long all my hard work of losing the weight was for nothing. I am scared of going to my doctor as I dont even know if I can classify this as an eating disorder due to be such a little amount of time. I could do with some advice. Thank you

Answer
What you describe sounds like anorexia and bulimia, Janet. It is a very dangerous and serious disease and progressive. I hope you get some help very soon. 200 calories a day is not enough to sustain you. Please see your doctor as soon as possible.

You might also look up Overeaters Anonymous - www.oa.org. They can provide you with support and people who've recovered from anorexia and bulimia. ]
