Question hi, i am 14/15 year old female and i weigh 8stone 2. My mum keeps going on about what i eat even though there is nothing wrong. I have cereal for breakfast, sandwich or rice cakes for lunch with fruit and a yoghart, and for dinner i will have fish and veg, sometimes rice or couscous, or spag bowl, or jacket potato with beans, or something.
A few months ago i did go through a bit of a rocky patch and didnt eat very much for a few weeks,e.g. no lunch and a small dinner, but once i had realised how stupid that was, i snapped out of it and for the last 2 weeks i have eaten food, such as the things that i stated.
Also my mum keeps threatening to take me to the doctors and i will be "sectioned" and its really pulling me down. We use to get on fine and now she will go on at me every second of the day and if i have, for example, a spot on my face, she will go on about hows its my diet and next my gums will rot and stuff. I dont over excersise either, i just walk to and from school everyday which is about 20mins each way.
My mum has said that she has gone to the doc's and talked to him, and now she is telling the doc and family that i weigh 7stone! and she hasnt even seen what the scales say.
Im just really worried that if one of these days i do go to the doctor with her, what he'll say because i dont know what she has told him and if he will believe me over her etc.
Also, i have noticed that recently my mum has started lying about what she eats, e.g. she said she had pasta, but we didnt have any in the cupboard etc. I have asked her and she just flips out, and i dont know whether to tell the doctor this or not. She also excerises a lot, every night of the week apart from weekends. Its like she has the problem not me and she is only happy if others are eating more than her.
Please reply soon as her "threatened" appointment is next week and i want to know what would be correct to say to the doctor and to whether i am the correct weight etc.
Thanks
Answer I'm so glad you wrote me! Just tell the doctor the truth. In the few days before your appointment, make a list of everything you're eating at every meal. You can take this in to the doctors -- also the doctor will weigh you -- your weight on the scale will tell the story!
There is no way you can be sectioned at your weight -- At this point, with the information I have, it does seem to be much more about your mother than it does about you -- exercise bulimia is a real condition. I would also tell the doctor that you'd like to see a therapist because it's so hard on you with your mother saying mean things all the time! Ask him/her for more help -- they can refer you! Tell the doctor everything and ask to talk with him/her privately!
Sometimes the healthiest member of the family is the one who is getting help!
Let me know what happens!!
