Anorexia/Eating Disorders/Building muscle back
Expert: Gerri Helms - 2/13/2009
QuestionHello, I just recently got out of recovery a few months ago on Anorexia Nervosa. Since my recovery, I've finally been noticing all the damages I've done to my body physically. Like when I jump just a little bit or attempt to skip outside I instantly fall to the ground. My parents and doctor both told me this was due to me starving myself and letting the body eat at my muscles. Well my question is, what's the best way to build muscle back in the body quickly? I do cardio workouts everyday and I recovered some muscle but not enough to keep me sustained in sports. I'm still too fragile and weak. Please, is there anything I could take or do... like work out at the gym or so? I heard that you can keep a good weight on you and are physically active, so I thought maybe you would know the best solutions on vitamins to take, food to eat, and maybe a exercise plan for me to stay healthy and get enough exercise? Thanks much. Sorry for such a long story.

AnswerAmanda, I can't comment on how quickly your muscles will restore themselves but I do know that if you continue to properly provide nutrition to your body, you'll not do additional damage.
Have you talked to a dietitian or nutritionist? They may have better information for you.
