Question
Hi,

I suffered with anorexia for 14 years and have now recovered.  I have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months and so far not pregnant. I am concerned that being anorexic for all that time, I may not now be able to get pregnant?

During my time of being anorexic I lost my periods for just two years during the very start of my illness. I now have a regular period every month and have done so for the past 11 years.

Are recovered anorexics able to get pregnant?

Is there a risk of being permanently infertile due to this illness?

Many thanks.

Answer
This depends on the severity of your condition and you may want to talk to an endocrinologist to find out what this disease did to you and what are your chances of getting pregnant. Some are able to get pregnant, but again it depends on the level of damage the disease has done and only a doctor can help you with treatment options.
