AboutMeg Expertise I am recovinging from about nine years with my eating disorder and while I am not a psychologist, I`ve accumulated a good deal of knowlege about eating disorders as well as my own experience over this time. I`ve mainly struggled with anorexia, but have definitely had times where I have engaged in bulimic behaviors as well. I also struggle with over exercising, but am about to be certified as a personal trainer and have learned moderation as well as how to treat my body well so it can perform at it`s best. I promise to give an honest answer to anything asked, and I want to say that while it is a long, scary road---it is possible to get free of this and it is so important to keep on taking little steps and knowing that you are not alone.
Experience Sufferer for nine plus years. Also, my Mom has strugged with this issue- as have others in her side of the family.
First off, thanks so much for answering questions!
I became anorexic when I was 14 and that went on for about a year. For the next two years, until I was 16, I was on a restrictive diet (sometimes skipped meals, no dairy, limited grains, no junk food). I'm 16 now, turning 17 in august, and I've finally started to just eat normally, dairy, grains, and all other food groups and in big amounts (not 'anorexic big' lol, like actual substantial portions). I still haven't gotten period (yikes!) and was wondering if I have just started eating properly now.. (and am at a healthy weight, 100 lbs and i'm 16 almost 17 and 5'1)...when do you think I will get period? Or is it too late all together?
Thanks! *sorry for not being very concise ;)
Answer Hi Selena,
Thanks for your question and I'm so happy to hear that you're working towards recovery. It sounds like you've come a long and you should be very proud of yourself, as that is not an easy feat.
If you've just started to eat healthfully, my guess is that your body will just need some time to adjust and become healthy enough for you to get your period. However, the best thing to do if you're concerned, is to go to your doctor (I know, probably not what you wanted to hear) as they can tell you more specifically. Sometimes, doctors like to prescribe the pill or other methods to help start a period, if needed.
In any case, I'm sure that you will eventually get it and I wish you continued strength as you move forward.
Take care and please feel free to write anytime if there is anything more I can help with.
