ANSWER: Dear Delay,

I'm certainly glad that you wrote me!  When a person has anorexia, the body must feed off of something since it's not getting the food it needs.  So it feeds off of your muscle mass and all of your major organs including your brain!  This is where anorexics really get in trouble.  There is a strong voice telling them that they need to get thinner and that they don't want to get well.  This voice is what will eventually kill them.  20% of all anorexics die.  It is the highest cause of death among young women including accidents and depression.  Anorexia is extremely serious.

Please see if you can find the healthy voice you have hidden somewhere inside.  Have your healthy voice contact the doctor and also find a therapist who specializes in eating disorders.  I really understand you when you say you're not you anymore.  This is the time to find some help before it gets worse.

Please let me know how you do!

Warmly,

QUESTION: hi thanks for writing back.I dont wanna die but if dying mean getting skiny why not.Anyway that is not my point, the point is i dont wanna stop are get locked up in physco facility and thats what will happen if they find out

Answer
Dear Delay,

The sooner you begin to get some help, the sooner you'll be able to do all of this outpatient.  Even if it's recommended that you go inpatient, many treatment centers are small, are not lock down facilities, and are very nice.  Take a look at my treatment center at www.mirasol.net.

Mirasol is a very gentle place and people are there because they want to be -- not locked up with psych patients!!  I think that's horrible.

Let me know if I can help you in any way!

Warmly,
Jeannie

Expertise

I have been treating eating disorders for over 25 years and I have a doctorate in clinical psychology. I am an expert in anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders and in co-occurring disorders as well -- depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc. I was the official eating disorder therapist for the University of Arizona athletic department and love working with girls and women of all ages! 12 years ago I started my own treatment centers in Arizona where we treat adolescents and adults. I love working with people and have been helping people online since 1994. My hearts go out to the people out there who are unable to find help, who aren't sure whether they need help, and who don't have much of an understanding of the terrible consequences, emotionally and physically, that go hand in hand with the eating disorder. I view eating disorders as coping mechanisms that people use when they are under stress. I believe that eating disorders most times have many similarities whether it is anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating. The good news is that people can heal from an eating disorder and learn to create the lives they would like to live.

Experience

I have 25 years of experience in treating eating disorders of all kinds. I also do consultations for people who are starting treatment centers.
