Question
Hey, Elle again, I realize you just answered my last question thing. Thank you for your help.
I'm really scared at the moment of what's been going on, I hadn't eaten all week and today I ate probably what a normal person would eat over the course over one day in a singler sitting, I then purged
It all up.. Including blood. This is not the first time I've thrown up blood.
I'm
Also scared because I get my license soon.. And whenever I'm made to eat, it's dinner with my family, however I won't have to eat because I'll be free to drive and not be at home during these meal times. My family have no idea about my problems. I'm guessing if this keeps going and I lose more weight they will figure out something soon.
I don't know what's more terrifying, tearing my family apart when they realise and not being able to stop it because this has truly become an addiction, or telling them and suggesting I be in treatment... I feel if I actually say something they won't take me seriously anyway.
They live in denial. I'm suppose to be there perfect happy little girl.
I'm 18, 158cm and I weigh 40.4kg.
This is taking over my life yet I want it to continue because it's gone on so long I know nothing else and I'm terrified.

Answer
Yes, it is terrifying, Elle, particularly when you're throwing up blood.  This is extremely dangerous.  Did you look at my blog -- www.edrecovery.com.  I talk about a woman who has started a foundation because her daughter died from bulimia.  What happens is that the walls of the esophagus tear and a person can bleed to death.

Your parents won't notice -- it sounds like you're waiting for them to notice.  You might have to just take a leap and tell them because you're very ill.

It's time -  I would hate to see you die!

Warmly,
Jeannie

Expertise

I have been treating eating disorders for over 25 years and I have a doctorate in clinical psychology. I am an expert in anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders and in co-occurring disorders as well -- depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc. I was the official eating disorder therapist for the University of Arizona athletic department and love working with girls and women of all ages! 12 years ago I started my own treatment centers in Arizona where we treat adolescents and adults. I love working with people and have been helping people online since 1994. My hearts go out to the people out there who are unable to find help, who aren't sure whether they need help, and who don't have much of an understanding of the terrible consequences, emotionally and physically, that go hand in hand with the eating disorder. I view eating disorders as coping mechanisms that people use when they are under stress. I believe that eating disorders most times have many similarities whether it is anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating. The good news is that people can heal from an eating disorder and learn to create the lives they would like to live.

Experience

I have 25 years of experience in treating eating disorders of all kinds. I also do consultations for people who are starting treatment centers.
