Question
Hello again its A here - i tried to reply to your last message and was told 'too many follow ups' so have to ask a new question.Just wanted to thankyou for your message and your help. I looked up mirasol - im sorry i hadnt heard of it, i now realise it is your programme for recovery - it looks great, i dont think there is anything like that over here. No i dont live in london i am in northwest england. I remebr you asked if id seen a dietician - i did see one but she was a generic one rather than and ED one - she was absolutely lovely but unfortunately her usual patients were those needing to lose wt or elderly needing building up rather than ED. I am trying hard but feel like im banging my head against a brick wall. Head always counting/planning/having a go at me. Are there any books you would recommend? I have some but find some of them triggering and others want to fit everyone into a box of the poor mistreated child type thing and i dont agree that evryones ED stems from the same factors. Just wondered if you can think of any which offer real life experience and practical ideas to take steps forward. Many thanks again, A

Answer
Hi, A!

Never too many follow-ups with me!  My regular email address is jrust@mirasol.net so you can contact me there if you have a problem again.  There are a couple of books -- Bulimia: A Guide to Recovery and Anorexia: A Guide to Recovery written by Lindsay and Leigh Cohn.  You can find them at bulimia.com.  These folks are book publishers for only eating disorder books so I'm sure you'll find something that sounds good.  The above two books actually have programs for recovery.

Let me know how you do!!  PS I agree that not everyone has a history of abuse -- some people have genetic dispositions and a million other possibilities for causation.

Warmly,
Jeannie

Expertise

I have been treating eating disorders for over 25 years and I have a doctorate in clinical psychology. I am an expert in anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders and in co-occurring disorders as well -- depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc. I was the official eating disorder therapist for the University of Arizona athletic department and love working with girls and women of all ages! 12 years ago I started my own treatment centers in Arizona where we treat adolescents and adults. I love working with people and have been helping people online since 1994. My hearts go out to the people out there who are unable to find help, who aren't sure whether they need help, and who don't have much of an understanding of the terrible consequences, emotionally and physically, that go hand in hand with the eating disorder. I view eating disorders as coping mechanisms that people use when they are under stress. I believe that eating disorders most times have many similarities whether it is anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating. The good news is that people can heal from an eating disorder and learn to create the lives they would like to live.

Experience

I have 25 years of experience in treating eating disorders of all kinds. I also do consultations for people who are starting treatment centers.
