Anorexia/Eating Disorders/road to recovery

Question
Hi. For oh, about a year now I've struggled with my eating habits and almost stopped eating completely. Now my friends are worried and I'm trying to get better but I can't force myself to believe there's anything wrong with me. I weighed 140 now I was 118, I'm 5'5". This is the only coping strategy I have and its so hard trying to get rid of it! What is the best way to keep focus while trying to recover?

Answer
It's difficult to give up because you are asking yourself to give up something you've used to get by for some time now.  It's understandable.  You really need support in the form of counseling though.  Issues that you have with stress, family, relationships, etc all contribute for your need to cope with life.  A counselor can help with all of those things.

Expertise

I can answer questions specifically geared towards athletes and their eating issues. I would be able to assist parents or coaches with questions or concerns about disordered eating practices often found in the exercise and sports settings. I also have experience in training and conditioning so I am in a position to discus how the two interrelate.

I have a bachelor's degree in sports medicine and master's degrees in sport psychology and clinical counseling. I have done counseling with individuals, couples, and families, with specialization in athletes. Past clients have included triathletes, dancers, college cyclists, and Pro Tour cyclists.
