Question
Ok here's my situation. I spent 3 years with my ex husband calling me fat and disgusting and it just turned me over. I'm not under weight. I have though lost 80 pounds. I think I am headed down a bad road though. I run 4 miles a week. I do taebo and I eat on a daily basis 2 biscuits. Now those 2 biscuits are turning me off where i get full off 1. I hate food. Anything I touch makes me feel fat and disgusting so I just don't touch it. Just the smell alone of food makes me feel bloated, fat, and full.  Now I dont want to touch it. People at work have noticed I been dropping weight. Is it really starving yourself if you are not hungry? I eat those biscuits when I am hungry. What is wrong with me and what am I headed to?

Answer
Are the biscuits all that you are eating all day?

After your weight loss, are you a normal weight, or are you underweight?

If you genuinely not hungry, then there is every chance that this isn't an obvious eating disorder as usually anorexics are hungry, but fight the feelings!  I think that you should go and get blood tests and things done just to make sure that there is nothing physically wrong.  If the tests that your Dr may do come back negative or showing nothing, then maybe you should consider getting some counselling as although this may not be anorexia nervosa, there be psychological issues that are stopping you from eating that may stem from your Ex.  I think that if you are losing weight though, and cannot eat any more than you are at the moment, until you see professionals, you should maybe try and cut back on the exercise, as exercising as excessively on little food will result in your body using its muscle stores after its fat stores (everyone has them!)and that can also mean that it starts to use tissue from internal organs as well as skeletal muscle.  This puts your heart and things at risk - so I really think that you need to get an appointment with a Dr or therapist as soon as possible before you do damage to your body that can't be repaired!

Please, I don't mean to scare you, if you have any further questions, please come back and ask away!

All the best

P.S - you made that appointment yet?

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
