Anorexia/Eating Disorders/Help for normal weight person?

Question
Hello, I'm a normal weight person who's been eating disordered for about a year, maybe less. It's really taking it's toll on me and a part of me wants to seek help but it's my weight that's the problem.

Since I'm in the normal weight range, I'm afraid that no one will want to help me and that everyone will just laugh at me! A part of me wants to keep on going and become anorexic because maybe then someone will see how much I am hurting.

Do you think anyone would help me and still be very serious about it? I have ED-NOS, I'm sure about that. I'm also quite sure that I'm malnourished and got some stomach problems. It's all getting very serious.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
If you approach anyone, they should be understanding.  Most people that specialise in the area are well aware that you don't need to be skeletal to be dangerously ill!

I think that you should go to your Dr and explain everything to him.  Tell him the whole truth and say that you want to sort this before it goes any further.  If you feel malnourished, I recommend getting bloods done so that you know what you need to sort out so as it doesn't get any worse.

Whatever you do, please don't get deeply involved with anorexic behaviours.  They can be deadly, and can ruin your life if not!

Please feel free to come back if you have any other questions, or just need someone to talk to.

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
