Anorexia/Eating Disorders/Recovering body after eating disorder--return to normal possible?

Question
Hi Rev. Abbott:

I have suffered from 3 months of bulimia.  I stopped about a month ago, but have not been able to stop the binge eating yet.

I have seen some frightening changes in this relatively short period of time and am wondering if some can be reversed or will return to normal with time.

Scaly skin? (skin now looks like a 40 year old instead of a 28 year old)

Hair loss (noticeably thinner--will it regrow to look like it did only about 5 months ago? (before disorder))

Spider veins and bulging looking veins/visible veins (all over body, not just legs)--I think the binging has overloaded my system.  I know after pregnancy, these can subside--so that is what I'm hoping.

Teeth--I think they are ok, but I do notice they've actually started turning inward like an old person's do and my gums have deteriorated--my teeth were never sensitive to cold, now they are.  And I have spaces between teeth instead of the gum coming down between them. (looks again like an old person)

Loose, strechy weird skin

Also, my baoobs and butt have really sort of shrunk/sunk. I've lost a lot of my good curves, while accumulating rolls of fat/cellulite everywhere else.

This is all very scary and sad--I feel like I've aged myself 20 years. I'd like to start looking forward and feel happy but it's very hard if I know that these things can't turn back to normal.

Answer
The short answer is that you probably will recover on the outside AND the inside since you were strong enough to put the brakes on this in a relatively short time.
And you're still considered young ;)

Increase your intake of fruits - things like berries, melons (all kinds), bananas, pears (excellent for fiber), oranges, and other high water content, deep colored fruits.  It's incredible how they effect your skin and hair. Since focusing on plenty of fruits every single day, my skin tone and firmness really changed. It took a year or so with me, but that's not bad since I'm twice your age and suffered eating disorders for decades.

See your dentist for the teeth/gums. Treatment now can avoid costly complications later. Big time!

There are treatments you might benefit from for the hot/cold sensitivity.

Skin is very resilient, especially at your age, so with proper diet/nutrition, you should do very well.

Expertise

I have lived it and survived it. I know every excuse, reason, thought, feeling and rationalization - and I'm going to be very honest in my advice.

Experience

I've lost (& gained)HUNDREDS of lbs over a lifetime, more than 30 years of "professional dieting". Presently a counselor for sufferers of eating disorders, a nutritional advisor and spiritual counselor (Reverend, doctor); I've been on every diet there is and used the most bizarre weight loss products you can imagine. I am FORMERLY obese, anorexic (several times), bulimic MOST of the time - and maintaining size 4, with no gimmicks, devices, programs, pills or supplements.

I currently investigate the diet industry on behalf of consumers who do not need to be ripped off while struggling to be healthy. I WILL expose them all and I WON'T be intimidated, bullied or bought. My advice is for cost-free options. I have nothing whatsoever to gain from my recommendation(s). I make no money from my website and I sell, promote, endorse NO diet/health products, programs or devices. You'll also never see me on the receiving end of a hidden camera report...but you can be assured, I won't quit until I've exposed those who are out to take advantage of you.

It's a matter of choices. We need to stop complicating things.
