Question
After looking at myself in the mirror and then doc saying i shuld be in hospital made me realise i needed to take action. Ive been in recovery since mid-september and doing well.
But as i purely need to gain weight i am not allowed to participate in activities but i was told i can now do toning exercises in order to stay in shape but i wanna carry on gaining but not lose weight but tone up ... what do you suggest?

Many Thanks

Congratulations on deciding to beat this!!

You should be looking at doing resistance training.  This involves exercises that feel as though they are putting some strain on the muscle.

Toning can be achieved through the likes of yoga and pilates, or in a gym, using the machines that have weights attached to them.  You could even use dumbells and the like.

Avoid doing too much cardiovascular exercise, other than to help warm up muscles before using weights.

Are you getting professional treatment for this?  If you are, I would recommend asking what they suggest for helping you tone, as they may have things that they would rather you didn't do, and I don't want to against their advice to you!

All the best

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
