Question
i need to know if eventhough  you stop your eating disorders why do you always have bad feelings about yourself feeling fat and anxious, you are never totally cured right cause in your mind you always feel the same about yourself discontent....

Answer
I know from my own experience that when ever I'm in a recovered state I am never truly happy with the way I look or my personality - but then I slip back into behaviours so easily, the question is am I ever truly recovered?

I'd imagine it is hard to get rid of those feelings, and it may take a long time to happen.

I think that it depends on the sort of therapy you've had, some people will probably come to a stage that allows them to accept themself and maybe even love themself for who they are, for others, it is just a matter of deciding not to act upon the feelings of self-hatred!

I hope that one day that you, I and all the others that have to endure this torment, that we will learn to love ourselves, and discontentment will be a thing of the past - but until then, think about why you dislike yourself so much, are there anythings that you can alter without going to extremes?  If so focus on them rather than wasting energy worrying about those that you can't.

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
