Question
I have been looking for an answer for my question for along time. I have some very strange eating habits. I dont eat normal. I have a very limited list of the foods I eat. veggies, fruits, bacon, hard salami, beef jerky, bread, and junk food. I have always eaten like this, since a baby. I am sick and tired of it.But am terrified of trying new foods. I love the smell of different foods, but cannot even get them close to my mouth. I would love to be able to go out to a restarant and order something besides french fries and onion rings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Is there a reason that you eat like this other than fear of putting them near your mouth?  What thoughts go through your head if you do ever eat anything else?

This is fussy eating as a kid gotten out of hand.  As a child you should have been introduced to new foods early on, however, instead, a fear of the unknown has been allowed ot take over!

I think that some sort of therapy such as CBT to change the way you think about the foods, or even hypnotherapy may be useful in helping you combat this problem!

Eating just junk food and the like will do harm in the long run!  You say you eat fruits and veggies, that is good - but is it limited?

I think that you should speak to your doctor about these concerns and then maybe even a counsellor or dietician to see if they can offer any support!

Please feel free to come back with any other questions, or just to let me know how things are going!

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
