Anorexia/Eating Disorders/normal eating?

Question
Hi. I've recently been diagnosed with anorexia, I'm 5'6 and 88lbs. I want to
gradually regain some weight but I can't stop myself restricting and I haven't
yet eaten over 1000 calories per day and when I eat up to that I always go for
at least a twenty minute run and do some sit ups. I was wondering if there is
like an average calorie intake for someone of my height who is looking to eat
"normally". I know it sounds stupid, but I want to be able to stay home all day
without worrying about my mum forcing me to eat lunch. I really want to get
better but can't stop this power over me. Please help!

Answer
A recommended calorie intake would be about 2000 calories, but I know that is very daunting!

I would aim to eat NO LESS than 1500 calories a day.  This should allow you to gain weight, and then in the future, once your metabolism has stabilised, you should be able to maintain a healthier weight on that!

All the best

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
