Anorexia/Eating Disorders/weight gain during recovery from anorexia
Expert: Susan Downes - 8/7/2007
QuestionSusan,
I'm a 32 yr. old male personal trainer and have had anorexia from 2001-2006. i'm a year to a year and a half int recovery. i've talked to an ed dietician and had my blood checked and my resting metabolic rate (2390) i'm 5'7 and in 2005 was 119lbs. in 2007 Feb. hit 178 lbs. i don't overeat. i eat 5-6 meals, 2400-3300 calories per day and lift weights only 2-3 times per week and run 2 times per week. i cut back on my exercise.
anyway my question is what is the weight gain from, my ed dietician told me the symptons of water retention and i don't have any. 1) is it fat? if it is how is that possible, i don't overeat. 2) if it is will my body get better on it's own with time and consistency or do i get rid of it thru lifting weights and exercise.
this is driving me nuts. the weight gain i mean, i just want to know what's the culprit and how do i get rid of it. i'm normally around 155lbs. or so.
thanks Susan, i look forward in hearing from u soon.

AnswerHi Jerry, My eating disorder began in the 1970's when I was a professional body builder and power lifter, although I did not recognize it at the time. It was not until many years later that I realized I was trying to control my world by controlling my weight, fluid, and "fat". When you begin to eat normally, eat healthy, drink healthy...your metabolism will get back to normal and so will your weight. Leave me some feedback, a follow-up and a nomination if you wish. It is the only way that we know we are doing some good by staying up late at night trying to help people. Please do the best you can and keep me posted. I am here for you. It is late and I must sleep, but would like to delve further into your problem, so please keep me posted. Thank you. Warm Regards, Susan
