Question
hi-i have to gain weight because i had lost alot of weight from
not eating enough.right now im eatign about 1800-2000
calories in order to gain weight and this is from my 1200 calorie
diet originally.
i was wondering if i will keep on gaining weight and once i do
reach my desired weight how can i maintain it-cause right now i
have gained weight pretty fast already by increasing my calories.
basically - will i be able to maintain my weight oh a hgiher
calorie diet- of about 1800 calories, as opposed to a 1200
calorie diet, or will i gain weight eating 1800 calories ?

Answer
Not eating enough causes your metabolism to slow, and so when you increase the amount of calories you are eating, despite it being the recommended daily amount, you will initially put weight on!

Fear not though!

After you have been following a 'normal' diet for a while, your metabolism will recover, and once this happens, you will be able to eat 1800 calories and maintain a healthy weight.

Expertise

I am a medical student and have suffered from anorexia and bulimia myself, I am willing to answer questions based on my own experiences. My advice, however, should not be used as a substitute for that of a qualified medical professional.

Experience

I suffered from anorexia from the age of about 10. By the age of 13 I was suffering from bulimia. Now after 10 years of suffering from an eating disorder, I feel that I can say that I'm well on my way with recovery and would just like to be able to share what I have learned with those in similar situations!
